Spring Break Intensive (Ages 13 to 18)
Join Alaska Theatre of Youth for a Spring Break Intensive: "TEEN SOAP!"!! TEEN SOAP / VIDEO PRODUCTION SPRING SEMINAR

Course Description The Teen Soap program will be an opportunity for students to learn the creative and technical skills needed to write, rehearse, and produce a 1/2 hour video which will be aired on KACN television and submitted to numerous youth film festivals. The program will encourage youth to take risks and tackle serious subject matter relevant to the modern teenager. No subject matter will be off-limits. The only restrictions on the creative process will be the FCC regulations that the final product will need to adhere to. Students and their parents need to be aware that this program will be challenge social mores, and “adult” topics will be examined. Who Should Apply Due to the program content, only students age 13-18 will be allowed to apply. All students must write a short essay expressing their serious commitment to story-telling and video production. This program will not tolerate disrespect or distracted behavior. Only students serious about learning need apply. This is not a fun camp (although we do hope you enjoy yourselves). This project is a work experience and an introduction/foot-in-the-door to the local production industry. If individual students demonstrate technical proficiency and serious commitment to the production process, they may be offered technical internships with KACN-TV or Progressive Media Alaska.

Enrollment Fee This program will offer students access to numerous community facilities and technical resources. All students will be charged $250 for enrollment, but need based scholarships are available. Contact Christian at the Alaska Theatre of Youth (338-4901) for more information.

Educators Christian Heppinstall, the Executive Director of the Alaska Theatre of Youth, will be directing the scriptwriting, character & story development, and rehearsal components of this program. Brandon McElroy, Owner of Progressive Media Alaska & Program Director for KACN-TV, will be teaching the students the technical skills they need to shoot, edit, & produce their own video
